Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF)
ARFF for Municipal Emergency Responders
An overview of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (A.R.F.F.) for structural fire department and rescue squad personnel. Includes an orientation to airport A.R.F.F. equipment and suggestions on the adaptation of structural fire fighting apparatus to A.R.F.F. Visual presentation of actual air crashes, and discussion of the special dangers and considerations necessary at an aircraft crash incident. The role played by municipal fire fighters at an aircraft incident both on an off an airfield is discussed. This program is specifically adjusted for each presentation to the airfields to which the host department may be called upon to respond, and the types of aircraft they are most likely to encounter. 4 hours
Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting in the Water Environment
An outline of the special equipment and techniques required to conduct effective and safe rescue of victims from an aircraft which has crashed into a body of water. Water safety tips are provided to insure that rescuers do not become victims during the extrication process. Demonstrations include use of flotation and rescue equipment. A presentation of actual incidents where an aircraft has crashed into a body of water. The need actual hands on training is reinforced by discussion of Operation Feet Wet, a crash simulation conducted off the coast of Florida. 4 hours
ARFF Incident Command and Coordination
Application of Incident Command System techniques to an aircraft crash scenario. Participants in group exercises will be expected to manage an aircraft incident by developing a response plan, implementing the plan in a tabletop exercise, and evaluating their plan, and the plans presented by others. This program is presented to a mixed group of fire fighting, police, EMS, rescue, political, and airfield managers. Participants should have previously participated in basic level programs in their particular disciplines. Course length 4 - 5 days, dependant on class size, and department requirements.
